Manchester City are reportedly preparing to battle Liverpool for the services of Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon during this summer's transfer window.
Liverpool are currently being heavily linked with the England international, who joined Newcastle from Everton at the start of 2023, but the Reds could now face fierce competition for his signature.
According to Football Insider, Man City have joined the race for Gordon, with the Citizens keen to explore the finances surrounding a summer deal for the 23-year-old.
The report claims that Liverpool remain in discussions with Newcastle, but the Reds have thus far been put off by Newcastle's high demands for the former Everton forward.
There have been suggestions that Newcastle want at least £75m for Gordon, with add-ons potentially taking the deal close to £100m, which is likely to prove problematic for Liverpool.

Man City 'exploring' summer deal for Gordon
Man City head coach Pep Guardiola allegedly wants his side to sign a 'lethal' forward this summer, and Gordon's arrival would throw Jack Grealish's future at the club into doubt.
Grealish, who was left out of the England squad for Euro 2024, struggled to make his mark for the Citizens during the 2023-24 campaign.
The 28-year-old only managed three goals and three assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for Guardiola's side, and there has recently been speculation surrounding his future.
Grealish has another three years left to run on his contract at Etihad Stadium, but there have been claims that he could be allowed to leave for a suitable price during the summer market.

Would Gordon be a good signing for Man City?
Gordon would certainly give Man City a different option in the final third of the field, which is seemingly what Guardiola is after during this summer's transfer window.
It has not quite been the Euro 2024 that Gordon would have hoped for, as he has only played one minute of football at the competition, and the attacker was again an unused substitute against Switzerland in Saturday's quarter-final.
However, Gordon has a record of 13 goals and 11 assists in 64 appearances for Newcastle, while his overall Premier League record for the Magpies and Everton is 19 goals and 13 assists in 116 appearances.
The forward also gained Champions League experience last term, and he certainly has the potential to take his game to a new level under the guidance of Guardiola.
Much will depend on price, though, as Man City are unlikely to be willing to pay £75m for Gordon, who scored 12 goals and registered 11 assists in 48 matches for Newcastle during the 2023-24 campaign.
