Liverpool reportedly open contract discussions with midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who has less than 18 months left on his existing deal.

Liverpool have reportedly opened contract negotiations with the representatives of Georginio Wijnaldum.

With less than 18 months remaining on his existing deal, Wijnaldum is being linked with a future move away from Anfield.

The Netherlands international has suggested that his current focus is not on agreeing fresh terms, instead wanting to prioritise attempting to win trophies.

However, The Athletic claims that club officials have began discussions with the midfielder's camp in a bid to determine his next move.

Despite being a regular in Jurgen Klopp's starting lineup, it is unclear whether the 29-year-old is open to taking on a new challenge.

Wijnaldum would not be short of offers should he opt to leave Merseyside on a free transfer at the end of next season.
