Pep Guardiola rules out one day managing Real Madrid due to his strong links with Barcelona, where he spent time as both a player and coach.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has insisted that he will never consider managing Real Madrid because he 'would not fit in' at the club.

The 45-year-old spent a large part of his playing career with rivals Barcelona and also started out in the world of management at Camp Nou, where he won three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues.

Guardiola's biographer Marti Perarnau told a Spanish radio station earlier this week that Real made an audacious approach for the Catalan while Rafael Benitez was still in charge last November, but Los Blancos then turned to legendary former player Zinedine Zidane.

Asked by reporters if a move to the Spanish capital could be on the cards further down the line, Guardiola said: "I'm a follower of FC Barcelona. I don't think Real Madrid needs a manager like me and I wouldn't fit there either."

Despite a career-worst six games without a win, Guardiola has still made a positive enough start to life at the Etihad Stadium as his side sit top of the Premier League table.
