Manchester City are reportedly set to splash out a sum of £100m on transfers over the January transfer window after failing to keep pace with Liverpool in the title race.

Manchester City will reportedly splash out a sum of £100m on transfers over the January transfer window after failing to keep pace with Liverpool in the title race.

Sunday's 3-1 defeat at Anfield has left Pep Guardiola's side nine points behind Liverpool, who have not lost at home in the league since April 2017.

The club has received criticism for its failure to replace Vincent Kompany over the summer - a notion that was exacerbated by Aymeric Laporte's severe knee injury in August.

According to The Mirror, City's hierarchy will provide Guardiola with substantial backing in January as part of an attempt to close the gap on Jurgen Klopp's side.

City are expected to place emphasis on signing a central defender, but will also look to identify replacements for David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

Isco, who is surplus to requirements at Real Madrid, has been reportedly targeted by City ahead of the January window.
