Manchester City move a step closer to signing Juventus defender Joao Cancelo, according to a report.

Manchester City have reportedly moved a step closer to signing Juventus defender Joao Cancelo after making it clear that they are prepared to meet the Italian club's asking price of £53m.

Cancelo joined Juve from Valencia last summer and has made 34 appearances for the Old Lady this term, contributing one goal and eight assists in all competitions.

Manchester United have previously been credited with an interest in the Portugal international.

However, according to Record, City are nearing an agreement with Juve, who have placed a £53m transfer value on the 24-year-old ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

Cancelo will miss Juve's final game of the season against Sampdoria on Sunday after undergoing surgery on a nasal fracture.
