Incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim receives a defensive injury boost ahead of his imminent arrival at the club, according to a report.

Incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly been handed an injury boost ahead of his first game in charge, which will be against Ipswich Town after the international break.

Amorim was announced as the man to replace Erik ten Hag over the weekend, but will not take over until later this month due to the required notice period he has to fill with Sporting Lisbon.

Therefore, Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in interim charge for the Europa League clash with PAOK, and the league outing versus Leicester City at the weekend.

The caretaker will remain without a number of players due to injury though, especially in defence, as Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are all currently sidelined.

However, in preparation of the new manager's arrival, summer signing Yoro could be in line to make his competitive debut for the Red Devils in Amorim's first game in charge.

Yoro arrived from Lille for £52m over the summer, fighting off interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs such as Real Madrid, but the teenager instantly suffered a major setback.

In a pre-season friendly with Arsenal in July, Yoro fractured his metatarsal in the first half, was forced off and has not featured since.

Initially, the match against Arsenal in the Premier League at the start of December was pencilled in as a potential return date, but there are now hopes it could be even sooner.

The Evening Standard claims that Amorim could have the defender available to him for his first game in charge against Ipswich on November 24, helping to relieve their current injury crisis.

After a season of defensive struggles last year, Man United have improved in that regard this time around, having conceded just 12 goals in their opening 10 games.

However, the Red Devils have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine games, with a merry-go-round of defenders being selected to deal with injury and a lack of form.

Since returning from injury, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans have had more game time than they may have expected, while Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez both spent time out of the team recently for tactical reasons.

Maguire's current injury has seen him miss the past five games, as the Man United faithful will hope Yoro's return will mean a more settled defensive structure under the new manager, who is likely to implement a back three.
