Andy Cole says that David Moyes is a perfect fit for Manchester United.

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes that David Moyes "fits the Manchester United mould" after being named as the club's manager from next season.

Current boss Sir Alex Ferguson announced on Wednesday that he will retire in the summer after 26 years in charge at Old Trafford, with the Everton chief picked as his successor.

Cole feels that Moyes will get the backing of the Red Devils board and supporters once he takes charge.

"He fits the Manchester United mould, put it that way," Cole told Sky Sports News. "He's had a great career at Everton as a manager despite having limited resources.

"But the good thing is that he will go to Manchester United and he will be backed, just as Sir Alex Ferguson was backed when it comes to transfer funds.

"He's going to take over a well-oiled machine that is very used to winning. If you look at his track record at Everton he's done very well and I think he will go in there and do what he needs to do to keep Manchester United winning."

Cole spent six seasons at Manchester United.
