Gary Lineker: 'Ryan Giggs won't guarantee Manchester United success'

Gary Lineker is not convinced that 'great player' Ryan Giggs will deliver success to Manchester United as interim manager.

Former England international Gary Lineker has given new Manchester United interim manager Ryan Giggs his backing, but has suggested that the Welshman may struggle should he be given the role long term.

The 40-year-old will take charge of United's four remaining games of the season following David Moyes's sacking on Tuesday.

Giggs will be assisted by former United player Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, while Phil Neville remains as part of the coaching setup.

Lineker wrote on Twitter: "Good luck, Messrs Giggs & Scholes. If great players guaranteed success as managers they'd be nailed on. History though tells us otherwise."

Giggs addressed the media for the first time since being appointed interim boss in a press conference on Friday.
