Lionel Messi, Robin van Persie and Cristiano Ronaldo up for award

Lionel Messi, Robin van Persie and Cristiano Ronaldo are all shortlisted for the European Player of the Season award for the 2012-13 campaign.

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin van Persie have been shortlisted for the accolade of the European Player of the Season award for the 2012-13 campaign.

Messi finished top scorer in La Liga with 46 goals as Barcelona were crowned champions, while Manchester United striker Van Persie finished top of the scoring charts with 26 strikes en route to winning the Premier League.

Real Madrid star Ronaldo scored 34 times for Los Blancos and all three players are up for the award, which will be announced on Thursday.

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery is also in the running for his instrumental part in helping the Germans to a historic treble.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robert Lewandowski also made the 10-man shortlist following their exploits for Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
