Jose Mourinho denies rift claim after latest defeat

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho insists that his team "is united" and puts the 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur down to fatigue.

Jose Mourinho has stressed that there is no rift behind the scenes at Manchester United, despite his side's poor start to the Premier League season.

On the back of a summer that saw the Portuguese publicly question the club's failure to bring in the transfer targets he wanted, United have lost two of their first three outings for the first time since 1992-93.

The Red Devils were beaten 3-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening, a week on from going down 3-2 at Brighton & Hove Albion, and there have been suggestions of a falling out between the manager and some of his players.

Mourinho, who left Juan Mata, Eric Bailly, Anthony Martial and Andreas Pereira out of his squad entirely for the match against Spurs, is adamant that his side are still working as one.

"I don't know [where it went wrong] tonight. Goals are an amazing vitamin and goals conceded are an overdose of fatigue," he told Sky Sports News. "We arrived at half time wondering why we were not winning, and then conceding two quick goals was an overdose of fatigue.

"The market is closed. There is no market until January 1. I've said what I need to say, and I won't say another word about that.

"Anyone who watched this game, one thing they know for sure is the team is united. The boys don't give everything they gave if the team isn't united. I think it's the time to stop with untruths.

"The solidarity to play together for United and lose at home is hard for everyone, but the team is united. There is no union without the manager."

The 3-0 loss to Spurs was Mourinho's biggest ever home defeat in all competitions as a manager.
