Paul Merson: 'Everton match is biggest of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign'

Paul Merson says that Manchester United's Premier League clash with Everton will be "the biggest game" of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's managerial career.

Former Arsenal forward Paul Merson has claimed that Manchester United's Premier League clash with Everton on Saturday will be "the biggest game" of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's managerial career.

United have lost their last two matches to Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir, leading to suggestions that the club had contacted former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The 20-time English champions are allegedly still behind Solskjaer despite the fact that the team are currently sitting down in 15th position in the Premier League table.

However, Merson has claimed that the Norwegian "will be under severe pressure" and has insisted that this weekend's clash at Goodison Park is a monumental affair for the head coach.

"Solskjaer will be under severe pressure. Let's be honest, this is Manchester United, the biggest club in world football, and where they are in the league is not acceptable. It's not like only two or three games have gone. And not only that, the performances have been poor," Merson told Sky Sports News.

"The way they capitulated against Tottenham, Arsenal weren't great but did a job on them. United looked lost, and then they went to Istanbul, who are not a top European team, and they have been beaten. If Solskjaer gets to Saturday [away at Everton], it will be the biggest game of his managerial career so far, if he gets to Saturday."

United have won each of their last six Premier League matches away from home, including against Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United in the early stages of this season.
