Manchester United will make a final decision on Mason Greenwood's future before the start of the new Premier League season, according to a report.

Manchester United will reportedly make a final decision on Mason Greenwood's future before the start of their 2023-24 Premier League campaign in August.

The Red Devils are in the latter stages of their internal investigation into the events that led to the England international being arrested in the early stages of 2022.

Following accusations from a woman, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The 21-year-old was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but all criminal charges against him have since been dropped, allowing him to resume his career in professional football.

At this stage, it is thought to be unlikely that Greenwood will be released or sold by the Red Devils this summer, with a loan move for the 2023-24 campaign widely being reported.

Man United head coach Erik ten Hag is said to be against a sale of the club's academy product, who has not featured since a Premier League clash with West Ham United last January.

Greenwood is believed to have recently put his house up for let, fuelling suggestions that he will be spending the 2023-24 campaign away from Man United.

Roma head coach Jose Mourinho is thought to have been in touch with the forward's camp to register an interest in bringing him to Italian football for next season.

Various clubs in Turkey are also believed to be closely monitoring the situation, while Juventus and AC Milan could be involved in a race for his signature in the current market.

According to Sky Sports News, Greenwood will not feature for Man United during pre-season, but a final decision on the forward is now close.

The report claims that the Red Devils are set to make an announcement before their 2023-24 Premier League campaign starts against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14.

Greenwood has made 129 appearances for Man United in all competitions, contributing 35 goals and 12 assists in the process.

Meanwhile, the forward, who has also been capped on one occasion by England, has another two years left to run on his deal at Old Trafford, which also includes a club option to extend until June 2026.
