Rafael da Silva to be used as Nicolas Gaitan makeweight?

A report claims that Manchester United full-back Rafael da Silva will be used in a player-plus-cash bid to land Nicolas Gaitan from Benfica.

Manchester United will reportedly use Rafael da Silva as a makeweight to land Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan.

The Red Devils are expected to announce the arrival of Torino right-back Matteo Darmian in the coming days, which could render Rafael surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, boss Louis van Gaal is now keen to strengthen his options in attack, with Gaitan topping his wishlist.

However, Rafael is said to have his eyes set on a move to Galatasaray, which could potentially scupper any player-plus-cash bid.

Gaitan, who is thought to have a release clause of around £20m inserted into his contract, is also a rumoured target for Atletico Madrid.
