Mexico midfielder Gerardo Torrado feels that his side are good enough to compete with the best teams in the world.

Mexico's Gerardo Torrado believes that his side can compete with the best international sides in the world after shaking off an "inferiority complex".

The central American nation take on Italy in the Confederations Cup this evening and the Cruz Azul midfielder feels that his team are now well-equipped to match the best sides in world football.

"These days Mexican players know they can compete and they've got the belief and the technique to succeed," Torrado told FIFA.com.

"We've got rid of that inferiority complex we once had. It won't be easy, but then the Confederations Cup never is. You're up against the best teams in the world and the competition is very stiff.

"At the same time, I think we'll have some good games. I think Mexico will perform well and we'll be looking to go as far as possible."

Host nation Brazil kicked off the tournament with a 3-0 win against Japan in Group A on Saturday.
