Helena Costa has become the first female manager of a men's professional team in France by taking charge of second division club Clermont Foot.
The 36-year-old Portuguese is a former youth team coach with Benfica, while she has also managed the Qatari and Iranian women's national sides.
Costa is also a former scout for Scottish champions Celtic.
"Costa has come through the ranks of Benfica's coaching staff, although she has also managed the women's teams of Qatar, Iran and Odivelas," read a statement on Clermont Foot's official website.
"In addition, she worked as a scout for Celtic. Olivier Chavanon – who has great experience and knowledge of the club – will join her as a sporting director."
Clermont continue their Ligue 2 campaign on Friday when they entertain Troyes.
