Claudio Reyna: 'New York City are boosted by Frank Lampard arrival'

Director of football Claudio Reyna claims that Frank Lampard's arrival has given New York City FC a "tremendous boost" ahead of their debut MLS season.

New York City FC's director of football Claudio Reyna has admitted that the club has been given a "tremendous boost" by the arrival of Frank Lampard.

It was confirmed earlier this week that the former Chelsea midfielder had signed a two-year deal with the new MLS franchise, and Reyna is certain that the deal is perfect for New York.

"Having spoken to him and his excitement for this new challenge it was really a no-brainer to make him a New York City FC player," the former USA international told reporters. "There are many out there who were interested to come but it was really important that we got the right one.

"Everyone knows what he does – he scores goals, he sets up goals, that's the type of player he's always been and we intend to use him in the same way.

"We're not asking him to do anything different, but for our club it's a tremendous boost and the next chapter in our short history."

Lampard has been linked with a short-term loan to a number of clubs ahead of New York's debut MLS season in 2015.
