Rangers sack Pedro Caixinha

Rangers confirm reports that they have sacked manager Pedro Caixinha after just seven months in charge.

Rangers have confirmed reports that they have sacked manager Pedro Caixinha after just seven months in charge.

After Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock left the Scottish giants in fourth place in the standings, reports emerged that unscheduled talks were being held between Caixinha and the club's hierarchy.

Those discussions have led to the 46-year-old being removed from his position in the dugout after just 27 matches, with eight defeats being suffered during that time.

On Sunday, Rangers lost out to Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals, and Caixinha labelled his players "embarrassing" after missing out on a place in the final against rivals Celtic.

A club statement read: "Rangers Football Club announce today (Thursday, October 26, 2017) that Pedro Caixinha has left the club.

"The decision to part company with Pedro was taken after careful consideration and the search for a new manager will begin immediately.

"Pedro was appointed in March this year but results have been disappointing and not commensurate with the level of investment that was made available."

Rangers have revealed that Graeme Murty will take charge on an interim basis, like he did in February when Mark Warburton left the club.
