Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol has claimed that Iker Casillas's recent mistakes have been highlighted to limit his chances of winning the 2012 FIFA Ballon d'Or.
The Spanish media has been critical of the 31-year-old for conceding goals against Manchester City in the Champions League and Barcelona in La Liga.
"When these types of criticisms are made, there is an objective," Albiol told EFE. "This campaign is to give those who choose the Ballon d'Or one less problem.
"It is clear that to win the award as a goalkeeper is very difficult but, if anyone can do, it is Iker. Last year he won trophies with Spain and with Real Madrid. He had a great season.
"A goalkeeper should have the same chance as an outfield player, and he has given a lot to Spanish football, the national team and Real Madrid."
Casillas won La Liga with Madrid last season and Euro 2012 with Spain in the summer.
