Preview: Getafe vs. Sevilla - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's La Liga clash between Getafe and Sevilla, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Sevilla's battle to stay out of the La Liga relegation zone will continue on Saturday afternoon, when they head to the Spanish capital to tackle Getafe.

The visitors are currently 16th in the La Liga table, six points ahead of 18th-placed Cadiz, while Getafe occupy 10th position, boasting 38 points from their 29 matches during a solid campaign.

Getafe have finished 15th in each of the last three La Liga campaigns, but they are very much on course to secure a top-half finish this term, currently sitting 10th in the division on 38 points.

Jose Bordalas's side are level on points with ninth-placed Villarreal and just four from Real Betis in seventh, but they are also just two points ahead of 12th-placed Osasuna, so the picture could change quite quickly.

Getafe's attacking output has suffered due to the recent season-ending knee injury suffered by leading goalscorer Borja Mayoral, but they managed to return to winning ways before the international break, beating title-challenging Girona 1-0 on home soil.

The capital outfit's home form this season has been impressive, picking up 28 points from their 14 matches, recording eight wins in the process and suffering just two defeats.

Getafe will be aiming to make it a league double over Sevilla this season, meanwhile, having recorded a 3-0 victory when the two teams locked horns in the reverse match at Estadio Ramon back in December.

Sevilla, meanwhile, entered the international break off the back of a 2-1 home loss to Celta, which pulled them back into the relegation fight entering the final stages of the campaign.

Los Nervionenses boast a record of six wins, 10 draws and 13 losses from 29 league games this season, with a total of 28 points leaving them in 16th spot in the table, only six points clear of 18th-placed Cadiz.

Sevilla finished 12th in Spain's top flight last season, which proved to be their lowest position since being relegated to the second tier in 1999-2000, but their campaign was saved by winning the Europa League.

There will be no European success for the team this term, though, and another poor result on Saturday would leave them vulnerable ahead of a trip to Las Palmas in the middle of April.

Sevilla have only managed to triumph in two of their 14 away league matches during the 2023-24 campaign, while they have lost their last two La Liga games against Getafe, including a 2-0 defeat in the corresponding fixture in the Spanish capital last term.

Team News

As mentioned, Getafe are without leading goalscorer Mayoral, while Mauro Arambarri will also be missing for the remainder of the campaign due to a serious knee injury.

The home side are otherwise in strong shape, and considering the performance against Girona before the international break, it would not be a surprise to see an unchanged XI for this contest.

Oscar Rodriguez was given the nod through the middle against Girona, with Mason Greenwood and Nemanja Maksimovic operating in the wide areas, and that could again be the case here.

There should also be another start for Yellu Santiago, with the 19-year-old scoring his first goal for the club in the one-goal success last time out.

As for Sevilla, their injury situation has eased significantly in recent weeks, with head coach Quique Sanchez Flores now having a much stronger squad to choose from.

Loic Bade remains a doubt due to a muscular issue, though, and there will also be no Jesus Navas this weekend, with the experienced defender suspended due to the milestone yellow card that he picked up in the defeat to Celta before the international break.

There will be changes from the side that started last time out, with Dodi Lukebakio, Juanlu Sanchez and Suso in line for starts on Saturday, but Youssef En-Nesyri and Isaac Romero are set to continue as the front two.

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Iglesias, Dakonam, Alderete, Alvarez; Greenwood, Milla, Santiago, Moriba, Maksimovic; Rodriguez

Sevilla possible starting lineup:
Nyland; Sanchez, Gudelj, Ramos, Salas, Ocampos; Lukebakio, Soumare, Suso; Romero, En-Nesyri

We say: Getafe 1-0 Sevilla

Getafe have the seventh-best home record in La Liga this season, while Sevilla have the 14th-worst record on their travels. We are expecting Saturday's clash to be a competitive affair, and it would not be a surprise to see a draw, but we just have a feeling that Getafe will navigate their way to all three points.
