Victor Wanyama apologises to Southampton over red card

Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama apologises to the club and its fans for the red card he received against Norwich City.

Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has apologised to the club and its supporters for his red card during Saturday's Premier League clash with Norwich City.

The Kenyan was shown a second yellow card in the 73rd minute at Carrow Road, and just three minutes later Alexander Tettey scored the only goal of the game to condemn the Saints to a seventh defeat in their last nine league and cup games.

Manager Ronald Koeman publicly criticised Wanyama for the challenge that resulted in his second booking, and the 24-year-old has now apologised for his "reckless and irresponsible" actions.

"I would just like to apologise to the manager, fans and everyone at the club for my red card yesterday," Wanyama wrote on Instagram.

"It was reckless and irresponsible and I should have used my experience to have not let it happen, especially when I was on a yellow card.

"I now just want to focus on getting back on the pitch and helping the team as much as I can."

Southampton, who face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup on Saturday, now sit 13th in the table following the defeat.
