Andre Villas-Boas is disappointed with Tottenham Hotspur's failure to finish in the top four in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that it is "extremely disappointing" not to have finished fourth in the Premier League this season.

Spurs won 1-0 against Sunderland at home in their final game of the campaign, but Arsenal's 1-0 victory at Newcastle United saw the Gunners secure the fourth and final Champions League spot.

"It is difficult to take, in the end we did what we had to but Arsenal did their job well and go through," BBC Sport quotes the Portuguese as saying. "It is difficult at this moment.

"It was extremely disappointing because we saw how the results can influence the running of the game. Our game could have been even better. We are absolutely disappointed not to have a penalty today, or all season.

"Tottenham is a wonderful club who will continue to attract big players and will continue to push on. A very, very good season, we pushed two clubs all the way for fourth and third spot and I think we can make it better next season."

Tottenham ended the 2012-13 Premier League campaign with 72 points.
