Stoke City 2-2 Wigan Athletic

Substitute Ben Watson scores a penalty with his first touch to claim a point for Wigan Athletic at Stoke City this afternoon.

Stoke City and Wigan Athletic shared two penalties and the spoils at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon.

After a largely uneventful opening 45 minutes, Wigan took the lead heading into the break courtesy of Victor Moses, who converted a pass from Hugo Rodallega in stoppage time.

The hosting Potters came out with a more adventurous attitude after the break and their pressure was eventually rewarded.

Wigan's Gary Caldwell was handed his marching orders 12 minutes from time when he handled Cameron Jermoe's goalbound effort on the line. Walters stepped up to power the resultant spot kick past Ali Al-Habsi to level up the scores.

Then, just eight minutes later Jerome got his name on the scoresheet when he turned in a cross from Walters to hand what looked like all three points to Stoke.

However, Wigan were awarded a penalty of their own moments later when Rodallega was brought down by Ryan Shotton inside the area. Substitute Ben Watson stepped up and with his first touch he sent his penalty past Thomas Sorensen to rescue a point for the away team.
