The Football Association has charged Sunderland manager Gus Poyet with improper conduct, due to an incident that took place during the Black Cats' 1-1 draw with Hull City on Tuesday.
Poyet was sent to the stands for having an altercation with Steve Bruce over Jack Rodwell's booking midway through the first half.
The Uruguayan has until 6pm on Monday to respond to the charge, according to a statement on the FA's official website.
Hull City's manager Steve Bruce has also been "formally reminded of his responsibilities" by the body in relation to the same incident.
