Michel Morganella apologises for racist tweet

Switzerland right-back Michel Morganella has apologised for the racist tweet that saw him kicked out of the Swiss Olympic team.

Switzerland right-back Michel Morganella has apologised for the racist tweet that saw him expelled from the Swiss Olympic football team.

The incident happened after Switzerland's 2-1 defeat to South Korea yesterday and the player has now apologised for his actions in a statement and accepted the decision.

"I made a huge mistake after the disappointing result," Morganella said. "I wish to apologise to the people in South Korea and their team, but also to the Swiss delegation and Swiss football in general.

"I obviously accept the consequences for my actions."

Morganella's teammates must win against Mexico on Wednesday to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stage.
