Preview: Wealdstone vs. Oldham Athletic - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Wealdstone and Oldham Athletic, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wealdstone will attempt to record consecutive victories in the National League on Tuesday night when they take on Oldham Athletic at Grosvenor Vale.

The hosts come into this one off the back of a win over Eastleigh, while the visitors enter the fray following a defeat against Gateshead in the FA Trophy.

Match preview

Wealdstone have been in decent form this season under Stuart Maynard and will look to propel themselves into the playoff positions with a win over Oldham.

The Stones sit ninth in the National League standings, having accumulated an impressive 37 points from 25 matches in the 2022-23 campaign.

Last time out, goals from Nathan Ferguson, Max Kretzschmar and Micah Obiero gifted Wealdstone a 3-1 triumph over Eastleigh in a dominant display.

Wealdstone were meant to be in action against Chesterfield last Tuesday, though the match was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

All focus will now turn to the challenge of Oldham, which could present the possibility for Wealdstone to move as high as sixth in the league, depending on results elsewhere.

On the other hand, Oldham have endured a poor season in the National League and languishe one place above the relegation zone with 24 points.

David Unsworth has struggled to reignite their fortunes over the course, though is unbeaten in his last two matches in charge of the Latics as they eye survival.

They did taste defeat in their FA Trophy outing against Gateshead on Saturday, with strikes from Kamil Conteh, Robbie Tinkler and Greg Olley cancelling out a Peter Clarke reply.

Oldham have one of the worst away records in the National League, taking just seven points from a possible 39 available on the road.

Changing this statistic will be a priority for Unsworth on Tuesday as he seeks to put distance between his side and the relegation places.

Team News

Wealdstone will have to do without the presence of Micah Obiero for the visit of Oldham, as he picked up a red card in the victory over Eastleigh so is suspended.

Corie Andrews could replace him in attack, with Simeon Akinola also being another decent option to call upon up top if needed.

Max Kretzschmar is likely to keep his place in the midfield following a stellar display in his last outing.

For the visitors, Peter Clarke is suspended and will not play due to being sent off against Gateshead in the FA Trophy.

Timmy Abraham will is expected to come back into the starting lineup, while Ben Tollitt could be called upon from the start to provide ingenuity.

Sydie Peck was forced off against Gateshead with a knock, and it is unclear whether he will be available for the trip to Grosvenor Vale.

Wealdstone possible starting lineup:
Howes; Barker, Cook, Freckleton, Habergham; Dyer, Ferguson, Kretzschmar, Allarakhia; Olomola, Andrews

Oldham Athletic possible starting lineup:
Norman; Hogan, Sheron, Chapman, Clarke; Sutton, Kitching, Tollitt, Fondop-Talum; Nuttall, Abraham

We say: Wealdstone 1-1 Oldham Athletic

In a match with permutations at both ends of the division, we expect a tight affair that will could go the distance on Tuesday.

This will be reflected in the scoreline, as Wealdstone and Oldham will be impossible to separate on the day.
