Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez reveals that midfielder Ben Watson is "not far away" from returning to action from a broken leg he suffered in November.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that midfielder Ben Watson is close to making a full recovery from breaking his leg.

The 27-year-old was forced out of action when he suffered a potentially career-ending injury during a clash against Liverpool in November.

"He's not far away, I think Ben has been working really well," BBC Sport quotes Martinez as saying. "I don't expect him to be away from possible squads for too long.

"We are all delighted with his progress and the manner that he has defied any medical odds in terms of when he would be back. He has been working with the team now for a couple of weeks so I hope he can make the squad before the end of the season."

Meanwhile, the Latics are three points away from safety in the Premier League table.
