Fernando Alonso on verge of leaving Ferrari for McLaren

Fernando Alonso reportedly agrees to join McLaren from Ferrari for the 2015 Formula 1 season.

Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso has reportedly finalised a switch from Ferrari to McLaren for the 2015 season.

The 33-year-old would return to the team where he spent a torrid 2007 alongside then-rookie Lewis Hamilton.

The switch could be confirmed before the final race of the 2014 season in Abu Dhabi in just under two weeks, according to Autosport.

McLaren are said to be waiting to decide who Alonso's teammate will be, with current duo Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen both wanting to stay and drive with Alonso.

Button has much more experience, but would be a lot more expensive to employ than Magnussen, who has enjoyed a decent rookie year.

Alonso, a two-time world champion with Renault last decade, has been with Ferrari for five seasons, coming second in the Championship on three occasions behind Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel.
