Michael Schumacher beams with pride after watching his close friend Sebastian Vettel win his third consecutive drivers' championship in a dramatic end to the season in Brazil.

Former world champion Michael Schumacher has declared that he feels proud of his countryman Sebastian Vettel after he secured a third consecutive drivers' crown.

Vettel overcame a dramatic start to take the title in a frantic Brazilian Grand Prix, becoming the youngest triple-world champion in Formula 1 history.

Schumacher admitted that he is a long-time friend of Vettel and feels that him winning the championship is a fitting end to a memorable season.

He told Sky Sports News: "I think it's a nice ending, I'm finishing off and he's clinching his third title. I'm very proud of him, he's a good friend of mine and let's see what happens in his future."

The German legend also revealed that he is looking forward to life away from the circuit after finishing his final race for Mercedes.

He said: "My emotions are under control at the moment, maybe later having a drink and hugging the mechanics it'll become more sentimental but I'm looking forward to life after Formula 1 now."

Schumacher came seventh in Brazil to finish the 2012 season in 13th place on 49 points.
