Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has refused to confirm that the scheduled Grand Prix of America in New Jersey will go ahead next year.
The race, which is designed to have Manhattan as a backdrop, has been far from certain because of problems with payments.
Ecclestone said: "The organisers have not complied with the terms and conditions of the contract, which is now gone anyway. They don't have a contract."
A final decision on the race is due to be made at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council on Friday, with an axe at the moment looking more likely than confirmation.
