Alexander Rossi has admitted that he is "really interested" in joining Haas F1 ahead of the 2016 season.
NASCAR owner Gene Haas has expressed his intention to build an American team with the long-term aim of competing for the world championship, and is expected to have cars on the grid from next year.
Rossi has revealed that he will return to Indycar to seek competitive action, but retains the ambition to race in Formula 1.
Rossi told f1web.it: "I am analysing different options. In the long term I plan to be in Formula One, but having worked for two years as a test driver, in 2015 I want to race.
"I am really interested in the Haas team. I have the necessary knowledge, the experience, I understand Formula One and I think for the promotion of the series in America they want a driver from the US."
Rossi was the reserve driver for Marussia last season and looked set to earn his debut, when Max Chilton had trouble raising the required sponsorship revenue to retain his seat.
