Dustin Johnson has claimed that his disappointments in previous Major tournaments motivate him ahead of the US PGA Championship.
The world number eight heads into this week's event as one of the favourites to top the leaderboard at Whistling Straits, where he missed out on a playoff in 2010 after grounding his club on what he later found out was a bunker on the 18th hole.
Johnson came even closer to a victory in one of the four tournaments when he three-putted the final hole at the US Open to hand the title to Jordan Spieth, but he insists that those memories do not have a negative impact on his approach.
"I don't really get too angry about them, but [they are] definitely motivation for sure," he told reporters. "It's frustrating sometimes, but I try not to let it bother me.
"I love the game and at the end of the day, it is just a game. So to get upset and get too worked up about it, I think it's not worth it.
"I try to learn from all the things that's happened and move forward and help me the next time I'm in the situation to overcome it and get a Major championship."
Johnson has nine top-10 finishes in Majors since 2009.
