Jordan Spieth expects Rory McIlroy charge at US PGA Championship

Jordan Spieth expects counterpart Rory McIlroy to "move up the board" after the pair both carded one-under-par 71s in the first round of the US PGA Championship.

Jordan Spieth has said that Rory McIlroy will "move up the board" in today's second round at the US PGA Championship.

The world's top two players are in the same group on the opening two days at Whistling Straits, and both carded one-under-par rounds of 71 on the opening day yesterday.

They are five behind early leader Dustin Johnson, who made the most of calmer conditions in the morning as Spieth and McIlroy had to battle stronger winds in the afternoon.

McIlroy is making his return after six weeks out with an ankle ligament injury, but Spieth said that McIlroy seemed fully fit.

"I didn't see any difference in his game," Masters and US Open champion Spieth told reporters.

"He seems 100% ready. Everything seemed to be on point and I expect him to move up the board."

Spieth will overtake McIlroy in the world rankings if he wins a third Major of the year. He will also become the third player after Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods to win three Majors in one season.
