Ernie Els believes that it was his time to shine as he won the Open Championship by a single shot on Sunday.
The South African came from six shots adrift on Sunday morning to finish on seven under as long-time leader Adam Scott bogeyed the last four holes to miss out on the title by one shot.
Els admits that his was his time in the spotlight following Scott's spectacular meltdown.
"It was my time," said Els. "I was hoping at best a play-off.
"A lot of people never thought I would win but I started believing this year, getting a lot of help from my family and the professionals around me."
The win was Els first major victory since 2002.
