Team England gymnasts Max Whitlock and Nile Wilson have both failed to medal in the men's floor final event at the Commonwealth Games.
The pair had been hot favourites to reach the podium in the first event of the apparatus finals at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre following their exploits at the Olympics in 2016 but both delivered sub-par performances on the day.
Wilson actually finished last of the eight competitors with a score of 12.400 following a routine in which he fell onto his backside and landed outside of the area multiple times.
Whitlock - performing last - had to overhaul the 13.966 score set by Cyprus's Marios Georgiou in order to retain the title he won in Glasgow four years ago, but he too was wobbly on his feet and could only manage 13.333, placing him sixth on the leaderboard.
Canada's Scott Morgan had been in pole position until Georgiou's confident performance sent him into a surprise first place and he instead had to settle for second with 13.833.
Daniel Purvis - GB teammate of Whitlock and Wilson, representing Scotland at the Games - took home the bronze after scoring a 13.733.
Whitlock will have another shot at Commonwealth gold later today when he competes in the pommel horse final, while Wilson is also up again later on the rings.
