Former NFL player Greg Boyd jailed for tax fraud

Former NFL player Greg Boyd is sentenced to almost three years in prison for income tax fraud.

Former NFL player Greg Boyd has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for tax income fraud.

Boyd was found guilty in November of filing fraudulent income tax returns in 2004, 2005 and 2006, when he reported no income for each year.

He claimed that he thought only federal employees, federal contractors and investors in federal securities owed income taxes, but the jury found him guilty nonetheless.

The former Arizona Cardinals defensive back was officially sentenced to two years and nine months in prison, substantially less time than the maximum sentence of nine years.

Boyd was chosen by then-reigning Super Bowl champions the Miami Dolphins in the 13th round of the 1973 Draft before being traded to the New England Patriots and then the New Orleans Saints.
