Former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal was reportedly taken to hospital on Tuesday after he took "outdated medicine".
The 34-year-old, who now plays for Monaco, underwent a liver transplant back in 2012 after a tumour was found one year prior to that.
However, Abidal's agent David Venditelli has claimed that the footballer was hospitalised after complaining about discomfort and pain, but that "it's nothing major", according to insidespanishfootball.com.
A statement from Monaco read: "Following a seasonal viral infection, given his medical background and Eric Abidal was hospitalised as a precaution for 48 hours. Today, his very satisfactory results allows him to be considered for release tomorrow and training resumed at the next appropriate meeting in La Turbie."
Abidal also thanked fans for the messages that he received.
