Bristol City have announced that they have installed safe standing rail seats at Ashton Gate.
The Robins have become the first football club in the UK to install the seats, which have been implemented in a 'demonstration block' for Bristol Rugby matches.
The seats are currently prohibited from being used during football games due to regulations that were introduced after the Hillsborough stadium tragedy in 1989.
Bristol City chief executive Doug Harman said: "If we are given the relevant permissions, this could be a great opportunity for Bristol City FC to become the first club in the Football League to install rail seating, as well as becoming a showcase for other teams up and down the country."
The majority of the 72 Football League clubs backed the proposal of safe standing areas during a meeting last Friday.
