Wembley to provide mental health charity Mind with vital platform

Chelsea face Manchester City in the final of this year's Carabao Cup on Sunday.

Mental health will be showcased for the first time at Wembley this weekend in the Carabao Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City.

The mental health charity Mind has already forged a two-year partnership with the Football League that started at the beginning of this season.

As part of its collaboration with the EFL and Carabao Cup, Mind will run a host of activities related to mental health before and during Sunday afternoon's clash in order to raise awareness and highlight the support the charity provides.

Paul Farmer, chief executive of Mind, said: "Bringing mental health to Wembley, the home of football, is a landmark moment in the visibility of mental health in football.

"Mental health problems exist in football just like everywhere else in life. Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem.

"Our research suggests that while football fans, particularly men, are comfortable showing their emotions at football matches, many feel unable to reach out for support when they need it.

"We are proud to be working in partnership with the EFL to be real game-changers in the way football tackles mental health.

"We hope that events like the Carabao Cup Final will reach out to the thousands of fans watching the match to let them know that Mind is here to ensure that they always have somewhere to turn to."
