Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has apologised for indirectly calling manager Jurgen Klopp a 'dickhead' on an Instagram post earlier today.

When commenting on a friend's picture, Skrtel appeared to agree with a comment using the derogatory term to describe the Liverpool boss, who left the defender out of his starting lineup on numerous occasions last season.

However, Skrtel insists that he was not in charge of his social media accounts when the comments were made.

"I am truly sorry for the situation and for what was written under my name," the centre-back wrote in another Instagram post.

"These days, when I am very busy I have asked my close friend to help me manage my social media profiles. He got taken away and he did not realise how serious the comments may appear.

"I would like to stress that the opinion he expressed is not my opinion."

Skrtel is expected to complete a £5.5m switch to Fenerbahce in the coming days.
