Samir Nasri pictured making offensive 'quenelle' gesture

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri is pictured making an allegedly anti-Semitic gesture similar to the one displayed by Nicolas Anelka this weekend.

A photo has emerged of Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri making a controversial 'quenelle' gesture similar to the one made by West Bromwich Albion striker Nicolas Anelka at the weekend.

The picture was initially taken in November outside City's training ground before being put on a Facebook page created in support of two French soldiers who were punished for making the gesture outside a synagogue.

It was republished on Twitter on Sunday after Anelka's goal celebration created a debate surrounding the political meaning of the action.

Anelka could face a minimum of five-match ban for the gesture, which is said to be an inverted Nazi salute with strong connotations to anti-Semitism.

It is believed that Nasri was unaware of the meaning behind the gesture and was merely doing it due to its popularity in France at the time.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini refused to comment on the issue.
