Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has caused some controversy by posting an image of drug lord Pablo Escobar to his Instagram page.

The 24-year-old uploaded a picture of the Colombian cocaine trafficker alongside a quote that read: "Only those who went hungry with me and stood by me when I went through a bad time at some point in life will eat at my table."

Argentina international Rojo received a number of critical responses to the post of Escobar, who was linked to hundreds of deaths in Colombia throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

According to the Daily Mail, one user posted: "Shitty Argentines. They dignify Escobar because they didn't suffer the decades of pain our country experienced. I wish they'd had them in Argentina instead of here."

Escobar, who allegedly accumulated £20 billion from his criminal activities, was shot dead by police in Colombia in 1993.
