NBA star Jason Collins has received death threats on Twitter after coming out as gay.
The Washington Wizards player was hit by a torrent of homophobic abuse after making the revelation during a Sports Illustrated interview.
"Yous a dead f****t talkn on TV Boy," wrote one Twitter user.
Another poster said: "Jason collins comes out the closet! Kill that biiitttchhhh!!!"
A third added: "First jason collins say he gay... Now he on ESPN w lipgloss on kill him now !!!"
Collins has otherwise received widespread support since coming out, with President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton and NBA star Kobe Bryant among those offering praise.
