Fox is planning to axe its dedicated soccer channel after losing the rights to broadcast the Premier League in the US.
According to reports, Fox Soccer Channel will likely close this summer after the conclusion of the current season. Fox was outbid for the rights to the Premier League by rival broadcaster NBC in a three-year deal worth $83m (£52m) per season beginning in 2013-14.
Fox Soccer will reportedly be replaced by a new entertainment channel, FXX - a spinoff of its male-skewed FX network - with a lineup featuring comedy series and movies.
A Fox spokesperson told TV Line of the plans: "We are constantly evaluating our programming offerings and this is just one notion we have considered over the past year or so."
Separately, Fox is gearing to launch a new national sports service, Fox Sports 1, to compete directly with ESPN in the US.
