More than 500 mourners attend the funeral of British IndyCar racer Justin Wilson, who died at the age of 37 after suffering head injuries during a race last month.

The funeral of British IndyCar racer Justin Wilson was held in Northamptonshire today.

The 37-year-old passed away in a Pennsylvania hospital on August 24 after suffering a serious head injury.

The sportsman was struck by a piece of debris from a crash that occurred in front of him during a race at the Pocono Raceway.

Today, ex-Formula 1 driver Mark Webber, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and three-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart were among more than 500 mourners to pay their respects.

Webber, who was one of the pall-bearers for the funeral, told PA: "It was an honour for me to do that for the family because we are a family in many ways when it comes to motorsport."

Wilson's coffin was draped in a union flag for the service at St James the Great Church in Paulerspury.

The racer leaves behind wife Julia and two daughters Jane and Jessica.
