Rory McIlroy sparks Nike putter-switching controversy

McIlroy sparks sponsorship row?

World number one Rory McIlroy may have sparked controversy with his sponsors Nike after he ditched their putter at the Abu Dhabi Championships.

The Northern Irishman, who signed a deal thought to be worth £150m with the global sports brand earlier this week, has been struggling in the United Arab Emirates after carding a three-over-par opening round yesterday.

While on the course today, the 23-year-old was seen getting rid of his Nike putter and instead using his old Scotty Cameron club.

The tournament in Abu Dhabi is the first time that McIlroy has used his new clubs.
