Paralympics cyclist Sarah Storey has said that she feels "incredibly honoured" to be made a Dame in the 2013 New Year Honours list.
The 35-year-old won four gold medals at the 2012 London Games to take her tally to 11 Olympic golds.
"Wow, I am speechless but incredibly honoured," The Mirror quotes her as saying.
"I never expected any additional awards after my sporting success. I love competing for my country and that is a huge honour in itself.
"Now to be a Dame is beyond anything I could have ever imagined and I cannot thank my family, friends, coaches and support staff enough for their devotion in helping me become the best athlete I can possibly be."
Both Bradley Wiggins and Ben Ainslie received knighthoods.
