Police launch an investigation into a banana-throwing incident involving Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale.

Police have reportedly opened an investigation into a banana-throwing incident during the North London derby involving Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale.

The Wales international is thought to have been a target for a fan in the crowd when a banana was thrown onto the pitch during Spurs' 2-1 win over Arsenal when Bale lined up to take a corner.

Assistant referee Darren Cann was seen on television cameras picking up the banana and removing it from the side of the pitch, and while no action was taken at the time, the Metropolitan Police are now looking into it, according to the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Emmanuel Adebayor was the subject of unsavoury chants from Arsenal fans during the match.
