Sunderland have confirmed that they will review Adam Johnson's suspension after he was given extended bail by police as they continue their investigation into allegations that he had sex with a girl under the age of 16.
Johnson was arrested on March 2 and was immediately suspended by the club, but the bail period for the 27-year-old has now been extended a further six weeks until April 23.
The Black Cats have revealed that they will reassess the situation on whether Johnson can return to training with the club.
They said in a statement: "Following the decision by the police today, the club will be reviewing its position and will not make any further comment at the present time."
Sunderland appointed Dick Advocaat as their manager until the end of the season to replace Gus Poyet, who was sacked on Monday.
