Former British Olympic diver Peter Tarsey and his wife Jean are found shot dead at their villa near Benidorm.

Former British Olympic diver Peter Tarsey and his wife Jean have been found dead at their villa in Xalo near Benidorm, Spain.

Guardia Civil have confirmed that Tarsey, who competed at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, and his other half were found with bullet wounds on their bodies on Sunday.

The discovery was made when friends decided to visit the couple, both 77, at their residence because they had not been spotted for a few days, police have confirmed.

A Guardia Civil spokeswoman is quoted by BBC News as saying: "[The friends] found the door was open and there were no signs of a break-in.

"The couple, who had been living in Spain for 18 years, were found dead with gunshot wounds on the sofa. The Guardia Civil is now awaiting the results of post-mortem examinations and investigations continue."

Mr Tarsey also represented England at the 1954 and 1958 Commonwealth Games.
