Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams is being sued by the family of a man who died in a Florida car crash, leaving her facing a wrongful death lawsuit.
A 78-year-old male named locally as Jerome Barson suffered fatal injuries in the June 9 collision, which police believe Williams was at fault for.
Williams, preparing to make her 20th appearance at Wimbledon next week, is said to have cut across the car while driving through an intersection in Palm Beach Gardens city.
Jerome's widow Linda, who was in the vehicle at the time of the collision, is suffering "intense grief" and a lawsuit will be launched.
"Her husband of 35 years was struck by Venus Williams, who was at fault in a car accident, which ultimately resulted in Mr Barson being hospitalised 14 days with multiple surgeries which resulted in his death," lawyer Michael Steinger told ABC.
"Mrs Barson is suffering intense grief and doesn't know how she will go on."
The police report pointed out that Williams was not under the influence of drink or drugs at the time of the accident, and was not distracted by any electronic devices.
